Friday, 20th March 2015 – the second day of our stay in Kayseri

The day started with workshops in the centre of  education “Kayseri-Melikgazi HALK EGITIMI MERKEZI VE AKSAM SANAT OKULU”. The topic of the workshops was “Communication with parents”. Mr Salih Faik Gurbuz was the lecturer. He introduced the problems of the Turkish youths and talked about how the school supports the students` aspirations for gaining knowledge and professional skills. He showed us the activities of school included in the programme of psychological support for students and the method of keeping records, files and data archiving. Communication with parents was also the topic of our meeting. These workshops were very interesting and enabled the exchange of knowledge and experiences in the field of work with student and cooperation with parents. We also heard about the programme of professional education for women of various age and the programme for the disabled. It was a form of  fight against unemployment and social exclusion. We were also guests in the shoe repair, where disabled people were learning this profession. Later we observed a hairdressing course, arts and dress-making course. We were really surprised with openness and friendliness, which we experienced in this training centre for adults. The students welcomed us warmly, talked about their studies and why they decided to take up school again.

We were really impressed with the level of engagement of both students and teachers.

In the afternoon we went to the local market.
